HELLO
We've got tons of exciting things for you this month, including some stuff we don't normally do, like making you famous on the telly, a competition, and an exclusive special offer for a workshop. Plus there's our usual round up of all things free, helpful and inspirational.
So stop reading this boring introduction bit and get stuck in!
FEATURED ADVERTISER - HOUSESIT MATCH
One way to save a ton of cash on your career break is to stay somewhere for free! Housesit Match is a free service that matches you with lovely places to housesit in Australia. All you have to do is look after the house, the garden, any pets that live there, and the pool (yes, some places have a pool!). House sits vary from a couple of weeks to a few months, so you’re bound to find something suitable.
To find a great place to stay just register on HouseSit Match and send a message any housesit that might suit you. It's that easy!
WANT TO BE ON TELLY?
Channel 4 are looking for people who are afraid of flying but going anyway for a new documentary. If this is you and you haven't booked yet, is this the kick in the bum you need?! Click here for more details and to contact the programme.
NEW ON THE SITE
Here are all our new and updated career breaks - we've got some exciting new wildlife conservation volunteering placements in Africa amongst other things.
FREE STUFF ROUND-UP
*Limited availability* Free ebook on 7 and 8 September ONLY. My Month in Myanmar: An Unconventional Guide to Traveling in Myanmar - Amber Hoffman (who wrote it) gave us a special heads-up about this so we could let you know (thanks Amber!).
Free graduate guide - you might be a bit old for some of this but it has info on careers and studying abroad that you might find useful. Online magazine format (so it probably won't work on your phone).
Free travel kit consultation at Nomad - we like Nomad a lot, and they really know their stuff when it comes to kit.
Free eye test from Tesco - it's a good idea to get your eyes and any other important bits checked before you go away.
4 weeks of the i newspaper for free - keep up to date on current events so you'll have something to talk about when you go travelling.
Free money - yes, really free money. First Direct will give you £125 for switching to them (conditions apply, as usual).
Free online digital photography course - none of us have done this but it looks pretty comprehensive.
Free audiobook - you have to sign up for a free trial for this but you can cancel it if you want.
We don't get paid to include this free stuff, we just find it as a service to you, our loyal readers. If you know of any freebies, wing us an email and let us know, so we can tell the rest of the world.
EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL OFFER
There's a Zen coaching workshop on 14 September on fear and dealing with change, plus how to communicate successfully. Quote The Career Break Site and get £5 off a full day session! It includes a FREE personal coaching session to boot.
PHOTO CORNER - YOUR MONTHLY DOSE OF INSPIRATION
Photos taken on a smartphone are good enough to be in National Geographic (the link goes to a news story in the Telegraph but it does include some super pics).
COMPETITION
Samsung are running a competition where you get stranded on a desert island with just a smartphone. Presumably going "Blimey, the reception's crap here". Click here for more details and to apply.
ON THE BLOG
An interview with Sally Robinson, uber career breaker. Sally did what lots of us want to do but never actually get around to - so hopefully her story (with lots of pictures) will inspire you!
8 ways to find a fantastic TEFL job in Asia - this is a guest post from Robert Oakden who has been a TEFL teacher and now works for a TEFL company.
10 things you didn't know about round-the-world tickets - just some interesting and useful snippets that will be helpful if you're planning a RTW trip.
10 tiny little ways to save money - Ronseal.
We're actually pretty proud of our blog. If you're planning a career break, or even just a bit of travel or volunteering, it's well useful - plus there's posts on money and your career. You can find it all here: http://www.thecareerbreaksite.com/blog.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Today's tip is from seasoned traveller Chocophile George on Twitter.
She (yes, George is a she!) says "Bring a multi-port USB charger box when you travel. That way, if all of the electrical outlets are being used, you can ask someone to double up with you and both can charge from one outlet. I don't know if it slows down the charging at all, but both (or more, depending on how many ports you have - mine's a double), will at least get some charge.
If you have a tip for us, email info@thecareerbreaksite.com - we will credit you unless you want to stay anonymous.
JOKE
I work for the world's biggest nanotechnology company.
We're not very good.
FINALLY
If you've got anything that you think your fellow career breakers (and career break wannabes) should know, tell us! We include all kinds of stuff in this newsletter, on our blog and in our social media feeds, so if you want to sing someone's praises, tell us about crap service, or even be featured yourself and become a little bit famous, just let us know! You can reply to this email and it'll get sent to the right person.
You can also contact us if you need help with your career break - we keep everything confidential unless you tell us you'd like to be featured.
Thanks for reading, and we'll see you again next month.
Love,
The Career Break Site
