It feels like spring is just around the corner, so we hope you're feeling a bit perkier after the horrible weather we've had. Spring is a great time to clear out your stuff ready for your big trip - and you can sell it to earn a bit of extra cash for your career break!
We've got a lovely lot of stuff in today's newsletter for you. As well as the usual round-up of blog posts, free and discounted stuff, inspiration, and tips, we've got a couple of new sections. One is a poll, because we love to get your opinions on stuff - although we did start off with something fairly silly to be honest. The second is where we've been featured around the internet this month, because we do contribute to other sites and we figured that some of those articles could actually be useful to you as well!
So make yourself a brew, take the next 10 minutes off work, and have a read. If your boss asks, tell them we said it's OK.
FREE STUFF ROUND-UP
Travel + Leisure are offering a free download of their guide to affordable beaches.
Create your own passport photo at home for free. Nice idea but we wouldn't risk using this for an actual passport (especially if you're not British). You could use it if you need one for your CV or whatever though.
Free mini guide to get started in writing - we know a lot of career breakers are budding travel writers so this might help you along the way!
Free "big trip" travel talks around the country from STA - they've got some really good speakers so get yourself along to one if you can.
DISCOUNTED STUFF ROUND-UP
Cotswold Outdoor have a sale on with up to £100 off their fanciest jackets. Nice.
We put these freebies and offers in the newsletter as a service to you, our lovely readers. We don't get paid for putting them in. (We wish we did though!)
CAREER BREAKS STARTING SOON
Here's a list of career breaks starting in the next 3 months.
PHOTO CORNER - YOUR MONTHLY DOSE OF INSPIRATION
A gallery of the best photos from the Sochi Winter Olympics - don't forget that there are ski and snowboard instructor courses listed on our site if you were inspired by the games.
One of our partners, Projects Abroad, produced this video featuring volunteers talking about a project in Cambodia. Nice to hear about these projects first hand and see what the volunteers get up to.
ON THE BLOG
We posted an email from one of our staff about passport scams (ahead of The Guardian reporting on it). Please read this and share it with your friends (especially those who don't read through things properly) - we don't want anyone else falling for it!
Our Valentine's Day post was on the 10 most romantic countries in the world. It's not an opinion piece, we researched statistics about who buys the most flowers, chocolates and diamonds - and who has the most sex!
8 misconceptions you have about sabbaticals is a must-read if you're planning a career break and aren't sure of your rights.
Finally, to follow up our posts 10 tiny little ways to save money and 10 more tiny little ways to save money, we wrote 10 huge and difficult ways to save money. Big they may be, but we worked out you could save £15,000 in a year if you did them all! That's not a typo, you really could save 15 thousand pounds. Awesome.
All these, and the rest of our blog posts, can be found here: http://www.thecareerbreaksite.com/blog. If you'd like to be interviewed for the blog, or you're itching to show off your journalistic skills by writing a guest post, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
NEW SECTION: ELSEWHERE ON THE INTERWEB
We're in Stylist magazine! They quoted us in an article called Why taking a career break is good for you.
Top ten tips for living in Australia was written by us for our friends at House Sit Match.
One of our photos, The Angel of Popcorn was featured on Our Wander Life. Have a look at the picture and backstory here.
TIP OF THE MONTH
If you get Dehli Belly (Travellers' Tummy, Montezuma's Revenge, the Greek Gallop, etc), don't take anything to try to stop it as it just means it takes longer for the bug to leave your body. Instead, make sure you pack plenty of rehydration powders as you'll need these to replace all the lost salts.
If you have a tip for us, email email@example.com - we will credit you unless you want to stay anonymous.
NEW SECTION: POLL OF THE MONTH
Getting a tattoo of the world on your back: cool or stupid? Vote here.
USEFUL THING OF THE MONTH
https://teamspir.it - it's a collaboration tool designed for work but might be useful for planning a career break too, especially if you're going with someone else.
http://garyc.me/bring/ - boinging a door stopper. Stupid. (But I bet you can't stop doing it!)
The Japanese flag is actually a pie chart of how much of Japan is Japan.
Hello to all of you on Facebook who have recently liked our page. You can post things on there like your photos or travellers' tales, and we'll share them with the rest of the world!
Until next time, have a good month and we'll see you at the end of March (when it'll officially be spring, woo!).
