And an extra special welcome to our new subscribers! There's been quite a lot of you lately, so let us give you a quick overview of what to expect.

This newsletter will land in your inbox every month and be crammed full of travel freebies and discounts, the odd competition, and new career breaks. There's also a photo corner for inspiration, an update from the blog, and a tip, question and joke of the month. Various other sections appear and disappear according to what's going on but we always make sure they're going to be interesting or useful to you - hopefully both!

Also, we try to keep the intro bit quite short, so without further ado, let's get stuck in!

Free cheatsheet to getting sponsors for your travel (we haven't read this yet, so let us know if you do and what you think of it!)

Free app for travel in Japan (iTunes only, soz Androiders)

Free app which calculates your total travel time. It's currently in beta so you have to sign up (and it might not work) but it looks really useful.

Buy one, get one half price on all maps and guides from Jarrold

If you're crazy enough to think about taking a career break with kids (hey, plenty of people do it), get this free Lonely Planet ebook on travelling with children.

Really cheap phone - it's a new version of the clunky old Nokia brick, so it probably won't break easily, and it's less than £40!

Free travel planning guide in ebook format for you to download.

One of the things we did when we rebuilt the site was give our partners the ability to log in and update their own career breaks and profiles. Which they have! It means all our projects and organisations are constantly updated so there's always something new on the site.

You can see all our fab career breaks here.

When we started The Career Break Site, there weren't really any internships for grown-ups like you. But how times have changed! We did have internships as a sub-section of "Paid work abroad" on the old site, but they're now so popular, we've given them their own section! Check it out here. An internship is a great way of getting experience in a field you want to break into, and doing it abroad will make your CV stand out when it comes to getting a job in your new career. And as a bonus, some are even paid!

See our new internships section here.

The blog is on holiday for this month, as our editorial team all went on their summer holidays at the same time! (That's what happens when you're one of the UK's top 25 flexible businesses!) They're back at the grindstone now, and brewing up some exciting posts for next month. In the mean time though, check out some of our recent popular posts:

This interview with Tony Restell on how to get a job is our most tweeted blog post of all time. Tony really knows everything there is to know about social media recruiting, and he was kind enough to give us this info for free so we could share it with you!

This post on how to avoid the top 5 sabbatical mistakes was inspired by various anonymous calls we've received about problems that have happened during their career break. So we've pulled them all together to help you avoid the same pitfalls.

This guest post by veteran traveller Pete Martin is a fantastic piece which should inspire anyone who's desperate to travel but afraid to leave their old life (even if only for a while).

The EyeEm Photography Awards is the world's biggest photo competition. They've just announced their 100 finalists and you can see them all here.

Assume that if something can get wet, it will! Make sure you pack everything in waterproof bags and take some spare ziplock bags, to keep things that might leak contained, and to keep your other stuff (like your pants) dry in case of torrential rain.

If you have a tip for us, email us or tweet us.

"I want a career break but I don't really know what I want to do."

We get this an awful lot, much more than you would think. In fact, the number one reason people give for taking a career break is simply to "do something different". We will never tell you what to do, just to explore all your options and make sure you're doing it for yourself. This blog post is a good place to start.

If you've got a question, get in touch! We never reveal your name (unless you want us to!)

Regular readers will remember that we had a COMPLAINT last months about the quality of the jokes. Said complainer then complained that we'd mentioned it. Anyway, he has at least submitted not one, but two jokes, for your delectation this month. Decide for yourself if they're better than the usual ones!

"Doctor, doctor, I've got an engine stuck in my trousers. It's driving me nuts."

"I'm good friends with 25 letters of the alphabet … I don't know Y."

We're still looking for people to contribute to the new site and to get involved in some of our new projects that are in the pipeline. You could be a career breaker or just thinking about taking a career break, a travel writer or blogger, or an industry professional. Whatever you are and whatever you do, if you think you've got something we need, get in touch!

Until next time,

The Career Break Site
