HELLO

Winter is coming, the goose is getting fat, the shops are persuading you to buy a load of tat.

But fear not, gentle reader, we're here to relieve the stresses and strains of the holiday season with a lovely newsletter full of worthwhile career breaks and ideas for far-flung travel destinations. There's career help too, plus useful stuff and the always-present-but-rarely-funny joke.

So take a break, put your feet on the radiator, and have a read.

SPONSORED FEATURE - RALEIGH INTERNATIONAL

Raleigh International delivers sustainable development in Borneo, Costa Rica and Tanzania. If you’re aged 25 - 75, they need you to volunteer your skills, time and energy to help them do it!

They have 11 different volunteer roles available including logistics coordinators, communication officers, adventure project managers and interpreters, so there's bound to be something to meet your skills and experience!

This is a dramatically different experience. You’ll be immersed in a new culture, develop personally and use your skills for a worthwhile cause.Cast off the mundane, ditch the standard and challenge yourself to do something better!

FREE STUFF ROUND-UP

Free little bottle of Baileys - yes, it's vile, but free booze is free booze.

Free pizza - again, nothing to do with career breaks but we know some of you are just counting the days until you can go, so every little helps!

Over 7,000 free audiobooks and ebooks for you to enjoy on your travels

£5 off Viator tours and activities to help you get to know new places.

DISCOUNTS EXTRA: BLACK FRIDAY DEALS

Black Friday makes absolutely no sense in the UK because Thanksgiving isn't celebrated here. However, a discount is a discount, so here are some travel and outdoor sales. It starts on 27th November, BTW.

Millets are having a sale. The code MIL30 should get you 30% off.

There are £7 hotel rooms in London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Dublin from Hotel Tonight.

Amazon are doing a load of lightning deals this week - you can save quite a bit on travel technology.

Boots are running offers over the weekend - a chance to stock up on your travel sponge back necessities!

British Airways have a variety of offers on too.

We've now got a whole page of free stuff and offers on the site, for the longer-lasting freebies and discounts that we find. Temporary offers and new free stuff will still be in this newsletter though.

EVENTS

Projects Abroad have regular events where you can find out more about volunteering with them. The next is in Edinburgh on Saturday 10th January from 10am. Click here for more details and to book a place. They're free!

The next Raleigh Open Event is in London on Wednesday 3rd December from 6:30pm. The event is especially for career breakers who are interested in being a volunteer manager, and is completely free to attend. Register for your place today.

These free events are great for getting to meet people face-to-face, ask any questions, and you can often speak to former volunteers as well. So definitely worth going to!

COMPETITION

We're still running our Tripkits giveaway on the blog. If you'd like a FREE teaching kit for voluteering or TEFL, all you have to do is email us telling us where you want to teach. That's it!

NEW AND UPDATED CAREER BREAKS

Here are all our new and updated career breaks - we've just added and updated lots, so check them out!

PHOTO CORNER - YOUR MONTHLY DOSE OF INSPIRATION

The most wonderful roads in the world.

VIDEO CORNER

Baby pandas don't want to take their medicine. This, as you might expect, is stupidly cute.

Visualised flights over UK airspace in 24 hours - pretty!

ON THE BLOG

10 little mistakes you're probably making which are ruining your job prospects

Our guest post this month is 5 selfish reasons to volunteer - all the benefits you get, backed up by science!

Finally, we have how to avoid unconscious self-sabotage, which starts with a funny story about Robbie Savage.

All these, and the rest of our blog posts, can be found here: http://www.thecareerbreaksite.com/blog.

ELSEWHERE ON THE INTERWEB

We were interviewed for this Independent article on wacky career breaks and how they make you more employable. If you need any more information about the career breaks we mention, drop us a line!

TIP OF THE MONTH

A career tip this month: Don't take career advice from someone who isn't in a job you want. This came from Brandon Lee (not that one) on Quora.

USEFUL THING OF THE MONTH

Workflowy - a  note-taking/organisational tool to organise your brain. Useful when planning a career break - you can keep track of everything from flight details to dream destinations!

JOKE

Our computers went down at work today, so we had to do everything manually.
It took me twenty minutes to shuffle the cards for Solitaire.

FINALLY

Some of our staff at The Career Break Site are American, and want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. They should do, they're getting the day off!

Wrap up warm, and we'll see you next month.

Love,
